An Aeophian Adventure: Dink goes to Aeophia
I didn't submit this DMOD for the DMOD list but I'll do it asap.
It won't be an epic MOD. It's my first DMOD so I just want to see what will come up of it Anyway, I'll try my best to make it as interesting as possible.
Here goes...
The Setting
A small Aeophian village called "Woodshire". Once a small camp, built inside a forest as a defensive measure against the roaming troops of king Leonard, it has ultimately become the perfect place to live for people seeking peace and quiet. And why not, a nice view? After the retreat of king Leonard, people came to Woodshire, some to meet their relatives, and some to build their own houses there. Soon, the camp was a camp no more. It could be considered a village! And quite a big one! The forest and the village, separated by a sturdy wooden wall, live in peace protecting each other.
The Story
Dink recieves a letter from Maya, a Woodshire inhabitant. His help was required there and payment was promised for his help. Since Dink just returned from his last extremely dangerous quest, he needed some rest. He was assured by Maya that there will be no fighting in Woodshire (the mission will be one with a more... diplomatic approach) and that her village is perfect for resting.
"Aside from the payment, I will also spend my holiday there! Great." said Dink, and he embarked on the nearest ship going to Aeophia.
---
Fans of hack'n slash might not like this DMOD. I don't think there will be any fighting at all. It's story advancement will be based on different puzzles and relationships with other people. As Maya said, it will be a relaxing adventure.

Estimated release date? Hm... I don't exactly know. Let's say a few weeks starting today!
For more info, suggestions, blah, blah, blah you know... post here.

It sounds neat and original, I'm definitely looking forward to this.
The screenshots look nice and detailed, too, although the amount of trees might be going a bit overboard. It is possible to create the illusion of a lush forest with fewer tactically placed trees, rather than stamping them everywhere madly.

I found the same problem in As Good as Eternity. But for some reason, no-one complained about it back then.
@scratcher
I'll try to lower their numbers as much as possible, but from a different point of view, lushness looks nice
But I get your point. I agree that there are a bit too many trees. (I always check for this when linking screens. I have already modified the respective areas yesterday (so the screenshots are a bit outdated) and deleted some of the trees.)

I agree, decoration looks good. But all the hardness from those trees can become a little annoying. And you can also create well decorated screens with a little more grass/flowers/mushrooms and not to many trees.
On the other hand a map with lots of trees fits the theme of the DMOD very well. I can see your point.
Anyway, this DMOD sounds quite promising. I'm looking forward to it.

This game makes me think of "As Good as Eternity", mainly because of spammage of tree's.
New features:
After accepted as a citizen Dink will be able to run the local pub, buy a house in town, even run the local shipyard.
There will be events based on these jobs.
The MOD will end when Dink decides to take a ship back to his home and leave his jobs.
(so, after completing the main quest, the player can have unlimited fun if he's on roleplaying and stuff...)
(and the main quest is not mandatory. You can buy your town citizenship and take on a job right away!)

Sounds like a new and interesting concept. Looking forward to your DMOD!
Sounds extremely promising and innovative. When do you think the game will release? I can't wait!
You can be sure, I'll play this when it's coming out. Patrunjelu seems like a new hope for TDN. His future seems promising. A new youngster for TDN, you know what I mean?
Anyway, I'll shuddup now.
Anyway, I'll shuddup now.
Sounds really cool! I'm really interested in how the whole no-fighting concept will turn out!
Oh, one thing I disagree though.
Though you want a relaxing D-Mod, I think that there should always be even a little bit of fighting. That is only my opinion, though.

The DMOD will be released around the fourth of july if everything goes according to the plan (maybe even sooner). Right now I'm really busy with the school (we have exams) and the national olympiad for which I have to work on a C# application at home (I do this in 90% of the spare time... the rest goes to personal projects, including this DMOD). But it should be all over this month, the 24th. Then, I'll have more time to work on this.
About combat:
Although i'm not sure of it, there might be a "master hunter" job. And some family feuds/street brawls.
The number of trees in important areas (in the village) will be massively lowered. The lushness will be present only at the borders of the village.
Thank you for your interest in my DMOD!

A DMOD with an actual release date! That's really cool.
And the features you have sound promising as well.

When I saw the screenshots, I jizzed in my pants....
Looks cool. You may want to change the amount of gold from 25 to something else. But if you want it that way, then fine.
Anyway, I'll shuddup now... again.

I didn't even notice the ammount of gold lol. Gold is not important for the development of the DMOD in it's current state, but once i'll work on the jobs and gold depending quests I will change the default values, don't worry.
I have finished working on the western part of the village and on one of the quests. I'll also post some pictures:

Because you will able to do jobs such as running the pub, there will be no mandatory quests. This way, the player can choose between a story based gameplay, and a "job-based" gameplay. And of course, a combination of both modes. Also, as you can see in one of the screenshots, the player can choose his replies to the NPC's questions. Rude replies will lower the player's reputation with that character. Nice replies will make the NPC more friendly with Dink. Some discussion topics will only be available when Dink has enough reputation points with the respective character.
Any thoughts on the DMOD so far? Any suggestions?
(there is a black thingie on the fourth pic. don't know how it got there, maybe a capture error. I'll try to fix it...)

So, when you can answer questions, it's kinda like the conversation system in my Hotel of the Middle Night. (That didn't turn out so well )
Didn't play that DMOD. I hope it will turn out well in mine.
A few new screenshots representing the mayor's house (his garden spreads on over three screens ) and the village's church, and of course some ducks (although the duck screen isn't completely decorated yet)!

The manor looks pretty nice, you've got the houses to fit together well
But what's that mushroom thing up in the tree? Is that meant to be there? An interesting fruit

Maybe you should add some more rocks to the screens. Just an advise.
Looks good, but you need to sort out the grass tiles.
Can't wait to see the finished product.

The screens look really good. It's easy to see you spent a lot of time and effort into decorating the maps.
The only thing that doesn't look good is the grass tiles. It seems you only used one single grass tile in all the screens, which make the grass look repetitive. Other than that, it looks really good!

I'll fix the grass problem as soon as possible.
As for the mushroom, it was supposed to be located under the trees... i'll try to find another location for it.

I have decided that there will be a few quests involving combat... Plus some ways of getting out of town for more adventures.
It sounds very similar to Rune Factory now. Have you played that game? If you can pull this off, this D-Mod could rank among the best!
Rune Factory? I haven't played it... yet. Summer holiday is coming. I'll have time to play more then, so I might try it. What platform is the game on?
There are two games on the DS and one on the Wii (but in Romania I think only the first Rune Factory for the DS is currently released).
Searched a bit for the titles. I have already played Harvest Moon - Boy & Girl for the PSP and Harvest Moon DS.
(never played futuristic harvest moons though)

This is the last screenshot on the progress of the DMOD. The rest will be kept a secret until released.

In my opinion this is my best designed area so far...
(about those stairs: don't ask there's a reason for their location).

Due to a change of schedule I will be able to work all day today and the DMOD might be released this evening. However, due to the same change of schedule, I won't be able to work on the Script Generator nor the Romanian Translation until around the 13th of June...
I have uploaded the DMOD. It's still beta though so there might be some bugs. More info on the description once it gets approved.
Congratulations to your first completed D-Mod, Patrunjelu! I'll play it through as soon as possible.
Amazing, no D-Mods this year until this week. Now they're three.

Thanks but it is not much... only a few quests and running a pub :\ But there will be a sequel (probably an Epic ) this summer now that I am familiarized to DinkC and dinkedit
But didn't you say this was only a beta version? And now you're planning a sequel to the full version. Or did you mean, that the so called "sequel" will be the full version?
This DMOD can be considered a demo for the upcoming sequel (which will contain Woodshire as well but in a different form... and time).
So, it's kind of a sequel and full version at the same time?
Uhm... no.
I made this DMOD to get used to DinkC and WinDinkEdit and see what will come up of it. You may consider it a "test" dmod. However, it plays an important role to the plot of it's sequel, and since Woodshire will be a playable area in the sequel as well, this DMOD can be considered a demo for the sequel.

So there is no original full game at all, or you may just say original game at all, but there is a sequel.
This IS the first part of the series. It is short just like a demo. That's what I was trying to say...
Ok. But you said you were gonna do a sequel. Did you mean, that you do the full version of the first part and after that a sequel?
EDIT: Oh, I probably understand now. Did you mean that this part is not a demo, but a short romp?

The DMOD I submitted is a full version and it is the first part. It is just short. My next project will be part two (the sequel).
Yes. It is just a short romp

You posted at the same time I edited my post. Anyways, I got it now.
I have decided to change some things to the original DMOD. Some sort of a remake with newly added things. I don't want to rush through it so I don't know exactly when it will get released. The changes won't be incredibly incredible but at least it will make the dmod better.
Oh, and now it features screen match, less trees and another village. And less trees. And of course, no more hardness problems. Did I mention about the seriously lowered number of trees?

Great to hear this. I found the original DMOD a bit of a letdown even though it was made quite decently.
Be sure to make the quests deeper and more rewarding. Just let everybody say 'thank you' after you helped them and maybe give some goodies as well.
Good luck!

Thanks The main story will also get a little makeover. One more thing:
Is there a tutorial here covering the following topics: sprite/graphics adding, general sprite movement (by scripting)?

I don't know of any tutorial that explains adding graphics in great detail, but my own tutorial has a section about this.
For moving sprites you can see my tutorial (chapter 11.1) or The rudiments of scripting which is slightly more elaborate on this subject. (Check the chapter about move_stop() )

The storyline seems interesting. I'd like to know what happened. Since there are (still!) some screenshots around that imply some work was done on it, that suggests that a partial amount of completion by now, at least.
If it is not still "in progress", perhaps it should be uploaded as an "unfinished" dmod.

Actually, this one was released. That's why the title sounded familiar.
Indeed it has been released!
