I'm looking for alpha testers!

All rightie, ladies and germs. Good ol' Phoenix has something exciting brewing, and is looking for alpha-testers for his latest project. (Yes, 'tis Dink related.)

Since I want to keep this project rather secret until I get done with it, I will impose certain restrictions on who gets to alpha-test for me. Another reason for me to restrict you people is that doing this for me will require a certain level of computer knowledge, and I don't wanna play "customer service" to any of you. Here are my terms:

1) You must already have, or know how to install, without my help, the Sun Java Runtime Library, version 1.5.0 (or newer). I'll be a bit kind here; the easiest way to check if you already have it is to go into a command window, and typing "java -version". To be honest, I don't know if this works in Windows. You may have to put the location of the Java binary into your PATH first. ANYHOW, those of you who qualify for this term should already know this, or at least figure out how to do this by yourselves.

2) I must have observed you (and have taken notice of your nick) here at the DN forums earlier. If I don't recognize your nick when you PM me, you're not in. Why? Cause I won't pick out too many people to do this, and I feel that those I pick should be somewhat known to me. I don't have to know you personally or anything, but I should get a "Hm, I've seen that nick before"-feeling when I get your message. Also, notice that I'm more likely to pick out people I know from before than total strangers, (those I know are easier to trust, after all) so if lots of people whom I've communicated with earlier contact me about this, only they will get the deal. Don't let this discourage you to try, though, I have no idea if any of them will contact me about this.

3) You must be willing to give me your email address. I will need to send you some files, and besides, I don't like the DN PM system.

4) You must be willing to do somewhat boring work. This testing will not be especially funny. However, the bonus is that you will get a clue as to what the heck I'm working with.

5) You must keep whatever information and files I provide you secret. If you don't, you will not be allowed to do further testing for me ever again, and I'll make sure the people here at the DN know that you're not a trustworthy person for later. Of course, I'm not sure how much people trust my point of view, but at least with the older members, I would guess I have a certain trust and impact when it comes to trust and truth.

6) You must know how to operate a command line interface. This thing does not have a GUI.

OK, that's all. If you find that you fit and/or agree to all points, don't hesitate to contact me per PM (or other means you know how to contact me through) right now. I think I'll probably pick around ten people in total for this. I'll post a reply to this thread when I've picked my people. I'll do my best to reply to all the requests I get, and reason why I chose you or not. If I pick you, you will get more information on what I want you to test for me, exactly.

Oh, and one last thing... don't bother asking me what it is I'm making. Unless you're totally dense, you must've noticed that this thing is currently a secret, and will stay secret until I deem it valueable for sharing.

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
Your project sounds promissing. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm "qualified" for alpha-testing. Anyway, good luck!
Any release date?

At this pace, I'm done before the end of next week. But I wouldn't rely on it.

Mmmm, pizza.
I'd love to, but as I have better things to do (study-ish things and other Dinky stuff), I just can't be available within two weeks. Good luck on the project, though

Unforunately I don't qualify cause of condition 'a'... but I'm intrigued nonetheless!

Oh well, don't worry too much, I'm working hard on this now, and there should be a public beta version ready before the next weekend.

Not worried, just curious.
